Maître de Chai, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019

Alex Pitts and Marty Winters met while cooking in the notable two-star Michelin restaurant, Cyrus, back in 2010. From fast friends to roommates to cellar-hands, their paths, while always connected, weaved in and out from respected restaurants and wineries alike. Their journeys, now stacked with experience in all aspects of wine, led to the start of their winery, Maitre-de-Chai. After years of making their wine at Scholium Project, they now are located at their own dope winery in Berkeley (that you can visit!) . As true keepers of the cellar, Alex and Marty take us on an exploration of old-school California, rekindling our love for classic grapes like Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Zinfandel, in the form of wholesome, delicious goodness that makes both our hearts and tongue so, so, so happy.

Organic, single vineyards set the groundwork for their portfolio. An innate curiosity to explore leads them to some of California’s most exciting, magical plots of land. In this case we are taken just 2 ridges in from the Pacific Ocean to a picturesque, mountain vineyard in Carmel. Rare, own-rooted, Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1969 that takes you directly to its mountain roots drinking opulent yet fresh, sturdy yet lifted.

Notes of: menthol, walnuts, brown sugar and blackberries.
